The Burlingame Disaster Response Drill is on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 9am-10:30am

How Does the Drill Work?

1) Blocks across Burlingame stage simulated disasters.
2) Neighbors practice responding with different team roles.

No special skills are needed! The drill is open to families of all ages.

Drill Day Overview

COMMAND CENTER

  • Neighborhood members gather at a home designated as the Command Center for your block at 9am on Drill Day
  • Block Leads will guide you and your neighbors on the drill process, the simulated disaster scenario, and the response teams

DISASTER SCENARIOS

Block Leads will describe the mock disaster scenario for your neighborhood. The most common is earthquake, but it may also be a winter storm or another emergency event.

  • Leads will go over the sequence of events, and how the teams will practice responding to the mock disaster
  • Teams will be created to cover all of the main roles needed to support neighbors during a disaster
  • Once the mock disaster has “happened,” the teams disperse on their block to practice doing their roles
  • Teams perform their assigned actions, report back to the command center, and get instructions on next steps

RESPONSE TEAM ROLES

Block Leads will describe the different teams, what each role does, and ask for volunteers to be on the teams. Roles include:

  • Incident Commander
  • Communications
  • Scribe
  • First Aid Team
  • Safety Team
  • Well-being Team
