Hundreds Turn Out for Burlingame Drill

Posted on October 13, 2025 by BNN Network
October 13, 2025 — A total of 255 people participated in the Burlingame Neighborhood Network’s Citywide Emergency Drill on Saturday, October 4, 2025, which was sponsored by the City of Burlingame, the Central County Fire Department, the Burlingame Police Department and Burlingame’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Seventeen groups of residents ran the drill in neighborhoods throughout the city. It was the 12th year the drill was held.

Participants practiced organizing in teams to help one another after a simulated earthquake and learned how to request supplies and help using FRS radios and  the Zello app on their cell phones, which turns them into walkie-talkies. HAM radio operators also helped relay messages to facilitate communication throughout the city. Local police officers and firefighters stopped by to report unscripted new developments and answer questions

Burlingame Neighborhood Network Co-Chair Joe Becerra thanked community members, police, fire and HAM radio operators for participating. “We are grateful to everyone who stepped up to help Burlingame become more resilient,” he said.
