Drill Lead Resources

Dear Drill Lead,

Planning for Burlingame’s Disaster Response Drill is well underway!  Here’s an update to keep everyone on the same page.
  1. Drill Walk-Through on Thursday Sept. 19, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Burlingame Community Center, 850 Burlingame Ave in the Fine Arts Studio on Level 2
This meeting is for drill leads and interested neighbors, especially Incident Commanders and Communications Leads.
We will show you how the drill works and will go over the Drill in 7 Easy Steps, explain how the drill is organized and offer suggestions for outreach to neighbors.
At this meeting, new drill leads will receive their Drill Kit and experienced drill leads will receive a Refresh Kit to supplement their original Drill Kit.  Drill Leads will also receive a Lawn Sign to place in front of their house or apartment building, to build awareness about the drill.
  2. Communications Workshop on Thursday Sept. 26, 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Burlingame Community Center, 850 Burlingame Ave in the Fine Arts Studio on Level 2
This meeting is for drill leads, communications leads and other interested neighbors. Communications are the critical component in any disaster.
We’ll review how to use a BNN DeWALT FRS radio (or how to get a radio), how to communicate with Ham radio operators and how to escalate critical incidents to first responders.  We’ll also announce your block’s channel assignment.
  3. If you would like a mentor to help you organize or lead your first drill, please reach out to us at [email protected] before September 18.  We will match you with an experienced drill lead to assist you on October 5.
