January 21, 2026 — There is still space available for the next CERT training course offered by the Central County Fire Department (CCFD). This free 20-hour course begins February 3 and is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. through February 26, with a final Skills Practice on Saturday, February 28. If you miss a class, you can make it up in another city.

CERT teaches community members about disaster preparedness for all hazards that may impact
our area, and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and
rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations. CERT team members learn how to use these skills assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders may not immediately be available to help.

No prior experience is necessary. Eligible participants can join the CCFD CERT Program as an affiliated Disaster Service Worker (DSW) volunteer upon completion of all training modules.

There is no charge, and you’ll receive a free backpack with emergency equipment.
