It’s easy to become a Ham radio operator this summer by enrolling in two classes. If you do, you’ll be able to communicate directly with Burlingame’s Emergency Operations Center during disasters. You can practice doing so at our annual Citywide Emergency Drill on October 13.
Saturday, July 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ham Radio Course. Burlingame Recreation Center 850 Burlingame Ave. This is the first time this training has been offered in Burlingame in many years. It will take place at the Burlingame Recreation Center. At the end of this all-day session, nearly all attendees become licensed Ham radio operators who can provide a lifeline to the outside world. The training is offered by the Bay Area Educational Amateur Radio Society (BAEARS) and costs $35. Registration information will be posted on BAEARS.com closer to the date.
Saturday, August 11, 9 a.m. to noon. HAM Radio Workshop. Lane Room, Burlingame Public Library, 480 Primrose Road. New Ham radio operators, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for! Experienced Hams will teach you everything you want to know about operating a Ham radio and will offer tips on where to buy inexpensive equipment.
